Backups

Backups you can restore yourself.

Automatic backups are included in the plans, and you can create and download a full account backup yourself at any time. Here is what gets saved, how to restore data, and when it is better to ask us.

  • Automatic backups in the plans
  • Full backup from cPanel in one click
  • Create a backup from the client portal too
  • Restore by our team on request
At a glance

What applies to backups.

Where it says “on request”, we haven’t published the detail yet. Ask us before you order and you’ll get an exact answer for your plan.

Tool
JetBackup in cPanel: restore files, databases, email and DNS zones from the automatic backups, no ticket needed.
Your own copy
Any time, from cPanel or the client portal. A backup takes up space on your account until you download and delete it.
Restore by our team
On request, via a ticket. Price: on request.
Responsibility
Our backups are an extra safeguard and don’t replace your own. The terms of service say so too.
What is in a backup

What gets saved.

A full cPanel account backup (the one you create yourself) contains everything below.

Files

Your whole home directory: pages, images, uploads, themes and plugins.

Databases

MySQL databases with users and privileges, e.g. WordPress content and shop orders.

Email

Mailboxes with their messages, forwarders and filters.

Account settings

DNS zones, domains and subdomains, cron jobs and other cPanel settings.

Restoring

Four ways, fastest first.

JetBackup

From the automatic backups

  1. In cPanel, open JetBackup.
  2. Choose what to restore: files, databases, email, DNS zones or the whole account (if offered).
  3. Pick the backup date and click Restore or Download.

Restoring overwrites the current state of the selected data. If unsure, download the backup first.

cPanel Backup

Yourself, in cPanel

  1. In cPanel, in the Files section, open Backup.
  2. To make a copy, choose Download a Full Account Backup or the home directory and databases separately.
  3. To restore, under Restore upload a home directory, database or email forwarder backup.

This tool can’t restore a full account backup by itself; use JetBackup or open a ticket.

Portal

In the client portal

  1. Sign in to the portal and open Backups.
  2. Click Create full backup. The file is saved in your account’s home directory and you get an email when it’s done.
  3. The same page lists existing backups with their dates; you download them from cPanel.
Open the portal
Our team

Restore on request

  1. Open a ticket with the domain name.
  2. Say what needs restoring (the whole account, files, a database or a mailbox) and from which date.
  3. We confirm what is available and, before any cost, the price. Currently: on request.

The 3-2-1 rule

One copy is no copy.

Three copies, on two different media, one outside the hosting. Our automatic backups are only one of them.

  • Make a backup before bigger changes (a WordPress update, a new theme)
  • Once a month, download a full backup to your computer or cloud storage
  • Delete the old backup from the account once downloaded, so it doesn’t use space
  • Check now and then that a backup actually opens
FAQ

Questions about backups.

Didn’t find your answer? All questions or write to us.

Are there backups?

The plans include automatic backups, and you can always download a full account backup yourself from cPanel. We recommend downloading copies of important sites yourself from time to time. See the guide.

How often are automatic backups made and how long are they kept?

Frequency: On request. Retention: On request. If it matters for your decision, ask us before you order.

Can I restore just one file or one database?

Yes. In cPanel → JetBackup pick just that file, folder or database and the backup date. You can also take the file out of a downloaded backup and upload it in File Manager, and restore a database in cPanel under Backup → Restore or in phpMyAdmin.

My site is infected. Does a backup help?

Often yes, if the backup is from before the infection. See what to do about malware.
